Gas and the Middle East

OUR DEPENDENCE ON GAS

You have to be living in a cave or in Timbuktu to not notice the gas prices. Everyday, that I drive by a gas station, it seems to go up a couple of cents. Reminds me of a frog put in a pan with gradual heat applied to it. We are the frogs and we are not noticing the heat until it is too late. These gas prices can affect our groceries, utilities, clothes, etc. The question is-What can we do about it?

THE SITUATION IN EGYPT

Every so often, History repeats itself. I remember back in the '80's, people were protesting against the Shah. News Reports were everywhere on the atrocities committed by the Shah and when the dust cleared, we had a new "Sheriff" in town by the name of Khomeini. He promised reforms, but yet brought the people of Iran into the dark ages. Not only that, but we had the hostage situation that seemed to last forever. Now, go forward in time to 2011 and we find the exact situation in Egypt. People are celebrating victory there, but I wonder who the next leader will be? Will they have a Khomeini type government restricting freedoms? Will we have a new "hostage" crisis which is the oil and the American people being the hostage?

THE ANSWER IS RIGHT UNDER OUR NOSE

I am, not, for dictatorship in government and I realize that the United States cannot be the policeman of the world, but we need to think about our future. We need to take our leaders to task and put their feet to the fire. This is not a Democratic or Republican issue and frankly speaking, I consider myself to be an independent. In the past, I have voted for Republican, Democrat and Independent candidates in government. I do not like to tie myself to one single party because I look at the issues. For example, a few years back, many were backing President George Bush, Jr. for the Iraq war. We were told that the gas pumps in Iraq were going to pay for the war effort. Here we are now, with trillions of dollars in debt from the war without a single cent returned to us! Not only that, but as the US troops leave, we face the possibility of Iraq being under strict Islamic law. So much for freedom!

Why not use Natural Gas?

Did you know that we have Natural Gas in abundance in America? We can develop a car that can take natural gas and it will be cheaper! What is holding us? Politics and the lobbyists. For one, the environmentalists with their silly laws. Don't get me wrong, I am for a clean environment, but some go off on left field. One example is global warming. Well, we have had a colder winter with much snow. So much for global warming. If environmental concern are backed up with scientific facts, then I am for it. If not, get and move out of the way. I, just pray, the common sense will prevail before the gas prices drive us into the horse and buggy days. Any feedback? Let's talk, but remember no profanity and lets keep it civil.
